VOH Symposium on Bullying

The Value Our Heritage Committee (VOH) of the University of the Philippines Alumni Association of Wisconsin (UPAA-W) held a successful symposium on Bullying: The Many Faces of Bullying Against Children and Adults at the Philippine Center on October 22, 2016.

Speakers at the symposium included David J. Cipriano, PhD, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine, Medical College of Wisconsin; Munther Barakat, PsyD, Program Psychologist, Aurora Psychiatric Hospital, Child and Adolescent Treatment Program; Asuncion Miteria Austria, PhD, Professor Emerita of Psychology and Founder and Director of Clinical Training, Graduate Program in Clinical Psychology, Cardinal Stritch University.

The Symposium included presentations on the nature of bullying and its associated characteristics, misconceptions about bullying, cyber bullying or electronic aggression, contemporary researches on the psychological, social or educational harm on the victim, insights and  types of support for children who had been bullied, insights and strategies for involvement of families.

Elsa Clemente, President of UPAA-W gave the opening remarks.  Members of the VOH Committee include, Asuncion Miteria Austria, PhD, chair; Magdalena Castillo, MD; Flor Ortiguera, and Jocelyn Ramos, members.

The symposium is part of the ongoing program of community outreach of the UPAA-W.
