Scholarship Awards

UPAA-W offers scholarship opportunities for (1) Wisconsin graduating high school seniors and (2) eligible students across the University of the Philippines (UP) System. Review the eligibility criteria and application requirements below for each award.

UPAA-W offers three kinds of scholarships: the UPAA-W Guansing-Regala Scholarships (Wisconsin graduating high school seniors pursuing a four-year college degree or a two-year college degree/trade/technical/vocational program), the UPAA-W Scholarship Award (eligible graduating senior students or freshman across the various campuses of the University of the Philippines System), and the UPAA-W Estrella Espejo Memorial Scholarship (also offered to eligible students across the various campuses of the UP System).

How to Apply

  1. Choose the scholarship that best fits your status (Wisconsin graduating senior or UP student).
  2. Review the eligibility criteria and required documents listed under the scholarship.
  3. Prepare your application materials (e.g., transcripts, essay, and supporting documents).
  4. Submit your application by the stated deadline. Incomplete or late submissions may not be reviewed.
  5. For UPAA-W Scholarship Awards, watch for guidance coordinated through the Office of Scholarships and Student Services (OSSS), UP Diliman.

UPAA-W Guansing-Regala Scholarships

UPAA-W Guansing-Regala Scholarship Award (Four-Year College Program)

This scholarship is a one-time award for Wisconsin graduating high school seniors.

Up to $1,000 will be awarded based on merit and financial need. If no applicants qualify under both criteria, UPAA-W may award up to $500 to applicants who meet either merit or financial need.

To receive the award, recipients must submit proof of enrollment/registration at a fully accredited public or private institution for a four-year bachelor’s program. If the scholarship is not claimed—or proof of enrollment/registration is not received—by December 31 of the award year, the scholarship will be forfeited.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Filipino parentage
  • Wisconsin resident
  • GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • Graduating from a Wisconsin high school and admitted to (and enrolling in) a fully accredited public or private institution for a four-year bachelor’s program

  • A 250-word essay on career goals, personal values, and experiences

UPAA-W Guansing-Regala Scholarship Award (Two-Year College or Trade/Technical/Vocational Program)

This scholarship is a one-time award for Wisconsin graduating high school seniors pursuing a two-year college degree or a trade/technical/vocational program at a fully accredited public or private institution.

Up to $1,000 will be awarded based on merit and financial need. If no applicants qualify under both criteria, UPAA-W may award up to $500 to applicants who meet either merit or financial need.

UPAA-W Scholarship Awards

The UPAA-W Scholarship Committee coordinates with the Office of Scholarships and Student Services (OSSS) in UP Diliman, Quezon City, to select scholarship recipient(s). If interested, contact OSSS for inquiries and for the application process.

UPAA-W Scholarship Award for Graduating Seniors

This scholarship is awarded to up to four (4) students per year in any of the campus of the University of the Philippines.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for the UPAA-W System-wide scholarship, applicants must meet the following:

  • Senior student from any college in the University of the Philippines System, provided the student will complete studies within two (2) semesters
  • Average grade of 2.5 or better and a load of at least 15 units, with no grade of “5.00” and no unremoved “4.00” or “INC” in the semester immediately preceding the application
  • Financially needy (parents’ annual gross income must not exceed P300,000)
  • No record of disciplinary action
Benefits
  • Book allowance of P4,000.00 per semester
  • Monthly stipend of P3,000 x 5 months (P15,000.00) per semester
  • Total grant of P19,000.00 per semester or P38,000.00 per year

UPAA-W Scholarship Award for Undergraduate Freshmen

On August 22, 2025, the UPAA-W established this new scholarship to provide financial assistance to academically deserving first year students from any college within the University of the Philippines system. This scholarship is awarded to three incoming freshmen at the beginning of each academic year. Recipients are selected in the first semester and may renew the scholarship for the second semester, provided they continue to meet the specified terms and conditions of the award.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following:

  • Freshman status from any college/major in any University of the Philippines campus
  • Natural-born Filipino citizen
  • Enrolling in college for the first time with no credited previous college work
  • Average grade of “2.5” or better and a load of at least 15 units, with no grade of “5.00” and no unremoved “4.00” or “INC” in the semester immediately preceding the application
  • Enrolled in at least 15 units at the time of award
  • Parents’ annual gross income must not exceed P500,000.00
  • No record of disciplinary action
  • Passed the UPCAT
Benefits
  • Book allowance of P4,000.00 per semester
  • Monthly stipend of P3,000 x 5 months (P15,000.00) per semester
  • Total grant of P19,000.00 per semester or P38,000.00 per year

UPAA-W Estrella Espejo Memorial Scholarship

Through the generosity of Drs. Evalynne and John Pickeral—and in keeping with its commitment to support the education of Filipino students—UPAA-W established the UPAA-W Estrella Espejo Memorial Scholarship Award on August 22, 2025, at UP Diliman, Quezon City, Philippines. The award will be granted to three (3) scholars every four (4) years, beginning in the first semester of AY 2025–2026 through the second semester of AY 2037–2038. The financial assistance covers four (4) years of college and will benefit a total of nine (9) incoming, academically qualified freshmen from any campus in the University of the Philippines (UP) System over a twelve-year period. Each scholarship is awarded every semester for a maximum of eight (8) regular semesters (excluding summer terms), provided the scholar continues to meet the terms and conditions of the award. The Office of Scholarships and Grants will administer this award in close coordination with UPAA-W.

  • Enrolled in at least 15 units at the time of the scholarship award
  • Parents’ annual gross income must not exceed P500,000.00
  • No record of disciplinary action
  • Passed the UPCAT (University of the Philippines College Admission Test)
Benefits
  • Book allowance of P4,000.00 per semester
  • Monthly stipend of P3,000 x 5 months (P15,000.00) per semester
  • Total grant of P19,000.00 per semester or P38,000.00 per year
