UPAA-W Reprises Uyauy Dance at the Asian Moon Festival

(Beaver Flores)

On October 4, 2025, UPAA-W reprised its well-received performance of the Ifugao “bumayah-uyauy” dance—originally presented at Fiesta Filipiniana in June—this time at the Asian Moon Festival and Business Excellence Celebration held at the Waukesha County Expo Center. Hosted annually by the Wisconsin Chinese Chamber of Commerce (WCCC), the Asian Moon Festival brings together Asian-owned and Asian-rooted businesses and cultural organizations from across Wisconsin.

UPAA-W was invited to perform alongside other cultural groups, including fellow Filipino organization Silahis Dance Troupe, who delivered energetic renditions of folk classics “Manang Biday” and “Sinisinta Kita.” The program also featured a diverse lineup of performances from the Milwaukee Chinese Community Center, Sunshine Dance Group, JK Lee Blackbelt Academy, and the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, to name a few.

UPAA-W responded enthusiastically to the invitation, embracing the opportunity to share Filipino heritage and connect with fellow Asian communities. Beyond the cultural presentations, the festival also included awards for business excellence, exhibits from local vendors, silent auctions, raffles, and a catered dinner with mooncake tasting—making it a festive and enriching experience for all attendees.

Following the event, organizers Wendy Zhang and Hnubhli Yang expressed their appreciation in a heartfelt message to UPAA-W and other participants:

“Not only did every group bring something unique to the stage, but your flexibility and positive attitude—especially with the last-minute time slot adjustments and program changes—really helped everything run smoothly. It was a team effort, and thanks to your professionalism, we were able to adapt on the fly and still deliver a fantastic show.”

UPAA-W’s participation in the Asian Moon Festival reflects the organization’s ongoing commitment to fostering fellowship, cultural exchange, and community engagement throughout Southeastern Wisconsin and beyond.
