For the year 2025, Prof. Myles Allen H. Zosa has been awarded the UPAA‑W Professorial Chair in recognition of his exemplary contributions to teaching, research, and service at the National Institute of Physics (NIP), University of the Philippines Diliman. He will receive a grant of ₱75,000.00.
Prof. Zosa earned his Bachelor of Science in Physics (2012) and Master of Science in Physics (2015) from the National Institute of Physics (NIP), University of the Philippines Diliman. From 2015 to 2016, he served as a Research Student at the Institute of Laser Engineering, Osaka University. He later completed his Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering at the Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University in 2022. He was a Monbukagakusho (MEXT) Scholar from 2015 to 2019.
He is currently an Assistant Professor at the National Institute of Physics and serves as the Program Coordinator of the Photonics Research Laboratory. Prof. Zosa has authored ten (10) scientific articles, published both locally and internationally, focusing on ultra‑intense laser–plasma interactions, laser‑driven ion acceleration, and megatesla magnetic field generation. He has also contributed to numerous peer‑reviewed conference proceedings and has participated in several international scientific conferences.
In addition to his research work, Prof. Zosa is actively involved in the physics community and currently serves as a Councilor of the Samahang Pisika ng Pilipinas.
Established in 1981, the UPAA‑W Professorial Chair is awarded in alternate years to an Assistant Professor from the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy and the National Institute of Physics at UP Diliman. Through this program, the UP Alumni Association of Wisconsin (UPAA‑W) continues its long‑standing commitment to supporting academic excellence, faculty development, and scholarly research at the University of the Philippines.
