The UP Alumni Association of Wisconsin (UPAA‑W) is pleased to announce the first recipients of the Estrella Espejo Memorial Scholarship, beginning First Semester, Academic Year 2025–2026. Three outstanding freshman students from across the University of the Philippines system have been selected to receive this scholarship.
Scholarship Recipients (AY 2025–2026)
Rovic graduated With Highest Honors from Manila Science High School and is from Binondo, Manila.
He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to UPAA‑W “for being an inspiration and for showing me the true spirit of being an Iskolar ng Bayan.” He shared that this scholarship means far more than financial assistance, as it gives him the motivation and hope to continue striving for excellence and to live up to the values of honor and excellence. He also promised to make the most of this opportunity and, one day, to pay it forward to others like him.
Maiav is a With Highest Honors graduate of St. Therese Educational Foundation of Tacloban, Inc. and hails from Can‑Avid, Eastern Samar.
She expressed her deep gratitude to UPAA‑W for believing in her and for giving her the opportunity to pursue a college education. Her family has faced significant financial hardship following her father’s unexpected and serious medical illness, making it difficult to continue her studies. Through this scholarship, she is able to remain at UP with greater peace of mind, allowing her to focus on her academics and on developing the skills she needs to pursue her dreams. She also shared her commitment to honoring the trust placed in her—through her dedication to her studies and through the life she builds after graduation.
Xandra graduated from Holy Cross College of Carigara, Inc. and is from Carigara, Leyte.
She expressed her sincere gratitude to UPAA‑W for the scholarship award, which will be a significant help in supporting her college education. With this assistance, she will no longer have to worry as much about covering the laboratory expenses required for her course.
These students were selected in recognition of their strong academic performance and promise as they begin their college journey at the University of the Philippines.
UPAA‑W extends its warmest congratulations to Rovic Tirad, Maiav Ysabella Gara, and Xandra Brier, the inaugural recipients of the Estrella Espejo Memorial Scholarship, and wishes them continued success in their studies.
