The University of the Philippines Alumni Association of Wisconsin (UPAA‑W) is pleased to announce Prof. Kathlyn T. Caragay as the 2025 and final recipient of the Asuncion Miteria Austria–UPAA‑W Professorial Chair. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to teaching, research, and service, Prof. Caragay will receive a grant of ₱60,000.00.
Prof. Caragay earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology (2008) and Master of Statistics (2015) from the University of the Philippines Diliman. She is currently in the dissertation stage of her Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology (Personality).
She serves as an Assistant Professor of Psychology at UP Diliman, where she teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in personality psychology, research methods, and psychological measurement. Her scholarly work focuses on the development and localization of psychological measures, with particular attention to individual differences, social norms, and indigenous Filipino psychological constructs.
Prof. Caragay has published and presented research on topics such as the translation of the HEXACO‑PI‑R into Filipino, the use of mixed methods in applied research, and the ethical implications of psychological assessment. A registered psychometrician, she actively contributes to research initiatives involving test development, norming studies, and community‑engaged research.
In addition to her research and teaching, Prof. Caragay has served on several committees within the Department of Psychology and the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy. She is a core member of the UP Personality and Individual Differences Research Laboratory and an active member of the Pambansang Samahan sa Sikolohiyang Pilipino.
Since 2019, the Asuncion Miteria Austria–UPAA‑W Professorial Chair has been awarded to seven (7) assistant professors in the Department of Psychology, College of Social Sciences and Philosophy, UP Diliman. The selection of Prof. Caragay as the final recipient marks the culmination of a professorial program that has supported academic excellence, faculty development, and scholarly impact within the department.
This professorial chair was made possible through the generosity of Prof. Asuncion Miteria Austria and the UP Alumni Association of Wisconsin (UPAA‑W), whose shared commitment has left a lasting legacy in advancing psychology education and research at the University of the Philippines.
