On February 3, 2024, the University of the Philippines Alumni Association of Wisconsin (UPAA-W) kicked off its 50th anniversary celebration in style with a fun and funky event titled “Let’s Get Groovy.” Held in honor of the organization’s founding on February 3, 1974, the night was filled with nostalgia, music, and vibrant energy.
Originally set at Mount Mary University Alumni Hall, a last-minute water main break the day before the event could have derailed the night, but the organizers and attendees didn’t miss a beat. With a quick change in location to Mother of Perpetual Help Gym in West Allis, the event showcased the flexibility and resilience of the UPAA-W community, proving that even unexpected challenges can’t faze them. It was a true testament to their “Tatak UP” spirit—rolling with the punches and making the most of every situation.
Themed around the iconic 1970s, attendees came dressed in their best retro outfits, from bell-bottoms and tie-dye shirts to platform shoes and vintage sunglasses.
With a dance floor grooving to disco classics, a 70’s fashion parade, and videos of UPAA-W entertainments from Christmas pasts, as well as a reprise of BarbieHeimer that kept everyone entertained, the night was a huge success. It perfectly set the tone for a year of celebrations leading up to the grand 50th anniversary gala. Here’s to another 50 years of success, community, and growth for UPAA-W!
