Our Mission

Our History

The University of the Philippines Alumni Association of Wisconsin (UPAA-W) was founded on February 3, 1974, by Roger Austria, who, along with twelve fellow alumni, ratified the Constitution and By-laws at St. Eugene Church in Fox Point. This marked the beginning of an organization that would become a cornerstone for the Filipino-American community in Wisconsin. Led by its Charter President, Roger Austria, the association’s early efforts were focused on promoting Filipino culture, providing community support, and sponsoring educational initiatives.

From its first project—a Filipino Food Booth at the 1974 Holiday Folk Fair—to its continued support of scholarships for deserving students both in Wisconsin and the Philippines, UPAA-W has grown into an organization deeply committed to preserving Filipino heritage. Over the years, the association has sponsored cultural exhibits, educational workshops, and community outreach programs, fostering unity and cultural awareness.

As UPAA-W celebrates its 50th year, its members remain dedicated to their mission of promoting Filipino culture and supporting their alma mater, the University of the Philippines. With each passing year, the association continues to expand its activities, ensuring that the legacy of Filipino heritage in Wisconsin remains vibrant for future generations.
